چکیده
The aim of the research was to establish an appropriate detection contrast metric in the mesopic luminance range which solves the problem of non-additivity by taking the influence of the chromatic channels into account. Based on several experiments at 10° and 20° eccentricity, and further theoretical modeling the CHC2 contrast metric was constructed, which takes the influence of the chromatic channel, the viewing angle into account. This results in an accurate detection contrast threshold prediction. In the thesis also the prediction performance of the CHC2 contrast metric was compared with models from the literature – the X, the MOVE and the CIE TC1-58 models –.

Modeling spectral sensitivity at low light levels based on mesopic visual performance
The spectral sensitivity of the eye at low light levels, ie, mesopic conditions, is determined by the rod and cone photoreceptors of the retina operating together in varying degree as adaptation luminance shifts between the scotopic and photopic. Thus mesopic spectral sensitivity is different from photopic, where only cones contribute to vision. There are definite needs for a practical system o...
متن کاملDevelopment of Visual Performance Based Mesopic Photometry
This work started by investigating the applicability of the photopic V( ) function to predict visual task performance at mesopic light levels. Visual acuity and pedestrian visibility experiments were carried out in varied lighting and viewing conditions. The results indicated the inadequacy of photopic photometry to characterise the response of peripheral vision at low mesopic light levels. The...
متن کاملColour vision and visual performance in the mesopic range of vision
The aim of this work is to predict mesopic detection contrast thresholds for spectral increments on a fixed uniform mesopic background. A compound contrast-type quantity C including achromatic and chromatic terms is defined. The detection threshold is characterized by C=1. From this criterion, a spectral non-additivity formula (NA) is derived for a mesopic luminance difference type quantity. Ac...
متن کاملCharacterising mesopic spectral sensitivity from reaction times
The spectral sensitivity of the eye was investigated using reaction times to broadband chromatic stimuli over a range of background luminances. Relative sensitivity was determined from the nonlinear reaction time curve by converting reaction times to a linear measure that was independent of spectral sensitivity. Two models for mesopic spectral sensitivity were compared. The first was a linear c...
متن کاملA Color Appearance Model Applicable in Mesopic Vision
We propose a color vision model that can be used to predict color appearance in mesopic vision as well as photopic and scotopic vision. It is based on a two-stage model which consists of the cone and opponent stages and it assumes rod intrusion at the opponent stage. The model has the following features to describe the color appearance in mesopic vision. First, it includes a gradual and nonline...
